A Peek Into Our Class...Check out some of the fun we've been having in music class this year!!
Orffestra!!!Third Grade have formed an "Orffestra" this year!!
But wait........What is an Orffestra????? Our Orffestra is baesd on the music education philosophy of composer and educator Carl Orff. Off is a lively, child centered approach to music education that incorporates singing, dancing, acting, and playing instruments in every class. Students learn instruments until they can play the complete range of xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels to accompany themselves while singing and playing the recorder. In our "Orffestra," up to six different instrumental parts come together while the children sing the song we are learning. Mrs. Kamp has been merging the ideas of "Orffestra" with the concepts we learned last year in Recorder Karate Level I and has been finding Orffestrations (Off Arrangements) of each of the songs we learned int he Recorder Karate Program. We hope to share our Orffestra with you soon, but until then, have a listen here: |
**This Month:
I can't believe it's already June!!! It's about to get EXCITING!!!!! We're putting the finishing touches on an AMAZING YEAR! Be sure to ask your child all about the exciting times they've been having in music class so far....they are eager and excited to share!!! Stay tuned right here for all of the fun...or, better yet, ask your child to share some of our new songs with you! **This Year: Third Grade come to music class three times a week: once for Chorus, once for Violin, and once for General Music Class. We'll also been busy exploring music through singing songs, playing instruments, dancing and interpreting music with our bodies, and listening to recordings and other students perform. We will be dividing our time between working through Orffestra and completing the Music Ace Program. During our Orffestra sessions, we will be branching out and forming and "orffestra" and incorporating recorders, xylophones, boomwhackers, melody bells, ukuleles, and drums into each song we learn. During our Music Ace sessions, we will be working through the Music Ace computer program to learn all about reading notes on the treble staff! I can't wait!!! Want to learn more about these programs?? Music Ace We'll continued to work with our recorders and hope to fly through Level 2 of the Recorder Karate Program!! As a little change from previous years, we will be working on a class recorder song at the beginning of each music class meeting. The song will change each month, but we will not be doing Belt Testing as a class. When you think you're ready to test, come see Mrs. Kamp during Recess and take your test. You can test as many times as you want for each belt and you can even test with a partner if you'd like. Just remember, each belt must be earned in order (no skipping straight to Double Black) and you must play the song smoothly and steadily with very few holes (pauses or breaks) to earn your belt. Need some practice, check out the recorder links below :) This year's Third Graders will also have the opportunity to participate in a Suzuki Style Violin Class each week as part of our schools new String Exploratory Program! Stay tuned for more information!! |

Students should write the word down on their card as they leave class and look it up at home. Place your Buzzword card in the bin before lunch time on Monday and you will receive a special prize!!
