Enjoy :)
I just wanted to let everyone know that the December Music Curriculum Guides have been posted online in case you are interested in learning a little more about what your child is learning about in the various areas of the music program. The easiest way to find the curriculum guide for the program that your child participates in is to go to the "About" tab at the top of the page (or click here) and then click on your child's grade level and / or performance music ensemble. From there, you will see a green button somewhere at the top of the class home page that will say "Monthly Curriculum Overviews." Clicking that green button will take you to the Curriculum Overviews for your child's program from September through December.
Enjoy :) Welcome Back Everyone!! I hope you and your families had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!
There was no Buzzword last week due to the Thanksgiving Break, but the game is back up and running as of this morning. This week's Buzzword is ACCENT. Do you know what that music word means or can you find its definition?? Everyone can get involved by checking the music room Buzzword poster or checking the Music Homepage for the weekly buzzword and bringing in a definition on a buzzword card. Special prizes for everyone who participates :) It's going to be a VERY busy few weeks in the music room as all of the students in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade are in the final push of preparations in General Music and Chorus classes for our big bi-annual winter musical, "The Big Chill!" The classes are all putting the finishing touches on their "Star Moment" songs and dances as well as some other special surprises. Fifth and Sixth graders have been hard at work memorizing lines, blocking scenes on stage with Mrs. Hren and our "Junior Director," Iona, and learning all sorts of AMAZING choreography for their big numbers with the help of our "Junior Choreographer," Lua. Most classes will be starting to spend a lot of time on stage learning where to stand and how to use the microphones so that everyone will be able to hear all of their hard work. Students should keep their ears open for announcements about Scenery Workshop in the Art Room during recess. this special team of students in grades 3 - 6 will work with Ms. Paris to create the scenery, props, and even some costumes for our big production!! The show is shaping up to be a wonderful opening to the Holiday season and we hope you will all be able to join us for some winter magic on Tuesday, December 20th at 6:00 PM. Want to know more about what your child's been up to in General Music Class or Chorus? Click here and find your child's grade level to find out :) Time to really get practicing ---- our Annual "Holiday Concert" is next week on THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8th at 6:00 PM. Both the Beginning and Concert Bands have been hard at work preparing for this special production. I can't believe each band only has ONE more rehearsal until the concert! My how this year has flown by!! You are going to be amazed at the work our students have been putting into concert preparation and practicing so far this year! A peek at our "Building Blocks" classroom wonder structure shows you how our practice has been growing! Thanks for reading. I hope you are all enjoying this special weekly glimpse into the music room and that it is inspiring you to talk about music with your children and further explore the music website. Don't forget to stay connected by joining our Music Department Google Calendar and our Remind App reminders for Beginning and Concert Band Students. Hope to see you all at our upcoming productions as we ring in the season by sharing some musical holiday cheer! Mrs. Kamp :) Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
Thank you to Ava for providing us with this week's Buzzword definition: Tenuto --- A note or chord held for its full time value or slightly more. Keep up the great buzzword detective work! And everyone else, get involved by checking the music room Buzzword poster or checking the Music Homepage for the weekly buzzword and bringing in a definition on a buzzword card. Special prizes for everyone who participates :) It's been a busy week in the music classroom, especially for the Pre-K 3 and 4, Kindergarten, First, and Second Grades! Each of these classes has been preparing some special musical numbers to share with you at tomorrow's Thanksgiving Feast. The Pre-K will be performing another adorable rendition of "The Turkey Wobble" and then the Kindergarten, First and Second Graders will come together to sing some Thanksgiving songs and entertain you with a musical retelling of the story of the First Thanksgiving. We hope you will all be able to join us for the Feast tomorrow, Tuesday, November 22nd at 12:25 PM. In other weekly news, all of the students have been working very hard in General Music and Chorus classes as we prepare for our bi-annual winter musical, "The Big Chill!" I'm hoping all of our singing about "seven feet of snow" hasn't been what sparked the recent change in the weather!! The classes are all putting the finishing touches on their "Star Moment" songs and dances as well as some other special surprises. Fifth and Sixth graders have been hard at work memorizing lines, blocking scenes on stage with Mrs. Hren and our "Junior Director," Iona, and learning all sorts of AMAZING choreography for their big numbers with the help of our "Junior Choreographer," Lua.
