General and Performance Music:There will be lots of special Halloween activities this week in each area of the General Music Program, so be sure to check HERE to find out specific information about what discoveries your child's class will be making in the month of October! Especially exciting will be a special "Witches Brew" activity for Kindergarten and First Grade to coincide with a Witches Brew song that we learned last week. Be sure to check out the new ways that Pre-K classes will be connecting music with literacy and their classroom weekly themes, and the new song of the month for our Second, Third, and Fourth Grade Orffestras!! Students in all grades are also hard at work beginning to learn their "Star Moment" songs for this year's Bi-Annual All School Holiday Musical, "The Best Gift EVER!" The cast has been set...rehearsals have begun...and the excitement is building to share all of our hard work with you when the show premiers in the school gym on Thursday, December 13th at 6:00 PM. Stay tuned at your child's individual music class website and right here at the music blog for updates and information about this special event :) In the Performance Music world, all of our instrumental lessons and band classes are doing GREAT!! Students are off to an excellent start remembering their instruments, music and practice sheets and have been earning tons of points for their individual classes in Battle of the Bands. Right now, Fourth Grade is in the lead, but watch out....Fifth and Sixth Grade still have plenty of time to catch up to you :) Besides working on our Holiday Musical, "The Best Gift, Ever," the Chorus is busy preparing a vast repertoire of American Patriotic Songs to share with you at our Veteran's Day Celebration on Thursday, November 8th at 9:00 AM. Please spread the word and be sure to join us as we honor our Veterans and those currently serving and thank them for all they do to keep us safe! If you know of a Veteran or Active Duty Service Person who would like to be honored at this celebration, please contact the school and provide us with their contact information so that we may reach out to as many people as possible!! Select students who participated in last year's NYSSMA Solo Festival will also be preparing special instrumental and vocal songs to share at the presentation as well! We look forward to this special time to share our thanks with all who served! Parents, it might be a good idea to save your child's band webpage so you can reference it for important information including practice sheets, band repertoire play alongs, the instrumental program google calendar, and, my favorite, our Remind App :) Stay tuned for updates about your child's performance date and time slot as they come in :) Check out the new schedule here and be sure to mark your child's new lesson date and time on your family calendar. We'll be riding the bus with "The Wheels on the Bus," rowing out into the ocean with "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," and even hopping on a train with "I've Been Working on the Railroad!" All of our students in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade will also be introduced to this year's whole school Holiday Musical, "The Best Gift EVER!" Mrs. Kamp :) So...What are we focusing on in music class?I just wanted to let everyone know that the September Music Curriculum Guides have been posted online in case you are interested in learning a little more about what your child is learning about in the various areas of the music program. The easiest way to find the curriculum guide for the program that your child participates in is to go to the "About" tab at the top of the page (or click here) and then click on your child's grade level and / or performance music ensemble. From there, you will see a green button somewhere at the top of the class home page that will say "Monthly Curriculum Overviews." Clicking that green button will take you to the Curriculum Overviews for your child's program. New curriculum guides will be posted each month :)
Enjoy :) |
