Our Weekly Info: | The Buzzword for last week was ARPEGGIO and it meant, "production of the tones of a chord in succession and not simultaneously." Congratulations to everyone who participated! This week's Buzzword is DISSONANCE. Do you now what it means?? Can you find out?? Check the Buzzword board each week to find out the new word...grab a card and write the word down. Head home and look up the definition of the word. Bring it back to Mrs. Kamp and receive a prize on Friday :) looking forward to playing this game and watching your musical vocabularies grow every week!!! With the new month of October comes a new Composer of the Month!" This month, we will be highlighting the work of Franz Liszt as we listen to his music and learn facts about his life each class. I am once again inviting all of our students to become music detectives and help me build our knowledge base all about Mr. Liszt! You can see all of the cool and interesting facts that our students bring in on the bulletin board outside of the music room, or by checking out the Composer of the Month feature on the homepage of the music website! |
General and Performance Music:
All of our students in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade will also be introduced to this year's whole school Holiday Musical, "The Best Gift EVER!" It's an exciting time as students will be learning the story of the show, listening to all of the songs from the show, and finding out what their class' "Star Moment" will be! Be sure to ask your child all about this special event and check your child's red go home folder in the coming weeks for more information about the bi-annual Holiday Musical!!
As always, there will be lots of new songs, dances, musical facts, and more being explored in each area of the General Music Program, so be sure to check HERE to find out specific information about what discoveries your child's class will be making in the month of October All of the Monthly Music Curriculum Guides for all of our grade levels and performance areas have been posted as of the end of last week. Be sure to check in and see what fun and exciting musical learning your child will be participating in in October!
In the Performance Music world, this was the first week of Instrumental Lessons for our brand new Fourth Grade Beginning Band Students!! I was sooo excited to see everyone happy and prepared for their first lessons! Fourth Graders may now begin practicing their instruments and are encouraged to fill out and return their practice sheet at their lesson next week. Fifth and Sixth Graders have been making AMAZING headway as we begin to prepare the music for our Holiday concert in December! I am so impressed at how well you are working together to be the best musicians you can be!!
As part of the Instrumental Lessons Program, students have the opportunity to earn "Band Karate" belts by completing playing tests with Mrs. Kamp. I am extremely excited to congratulate Natalie (6) on being the first student EVER to achieve the Level I Black Belt!!
AMAZING Job Natalie....now on to LEVEL II....will she conquer the level II Black Belt by the end of Sixth Grade?? Stay tuned here to find out!!!
