Our Weekly Info: | In other news...................... The Buzzword for this week is CESURA. Do you now what it means?? Can you find out?? Check the Buzzword board each week to find out the new word...grab a card and write the word down. Head home and look up the definition of the word. Bring it back to Mrs. Kamp and receive a prize on Friday :) looking forward to playing this game and watching your musical vocabularies grow every week!!! We began learning about our new Composer of the Month, Ludwig van Beethoven as we listen to his music and learn facts about his life each class. You can see the facts that they learned about Mr. Beethoven on display outside the music room or on the home page of this website :) Check your child's go home folder for this month's composer fact sheet as well as the directions for how to become a "music detective" and have their work featured on the bulletin board outside the music classroom and on the Music Website! |
General Music:
**Pre-K 3 and 4 will be beginning to practice our holiday carols for the upcoming Pre-K Holiday Celebration! We hope you will be able to join us as we take to the stage in the SCHOOL LIBRARY on Friday, December 20th!
**Kindergarten continues to explore the world of music, learning our hello routines and songs, experimenting with the different classroom instruments. We have begun incorporating our Pre-School Prodigies lessons with Mr. Rob and our Rhythm Band Curriculum into each class visit...making music a VERY Exciting place to be! We will also be learning some special holiday themed songs as we welcome the holiday season!
**First Graders are exploring the very many ways that music can be....loud / soft...fast / slow, etc. We're having fun with songs, games, instruments, dancing, and some pretty cool surprises as we build our music vocabularies and learn to speak the language of music. We will also be learning some special holiday themed songs as we welcome the holiday season!
**Second Graders are ready to test for our Orange Belt song, "Merrily We Roll Along!" Parents, you can find more information about the recorder program HERE along with some helpful links for at home practice :)
**Third Graders are "putting it all together" as we take all of the material we learned since Kindergarten and incorporate it into performing in our classroom "Orffestra!" We have mastered our first Orffestra song, "Gently Sleep" and are starting our new song "Merrily We Roll Along." We're hoping to post a recording soon so make sure you stay tuned!! Want to learn more about the Orffestra....click HERE. The Third Graders will also be working with Mrs. Nancy Remkus and Mrs. Kamp to write a song about "water" which will then be taught to the entire Amagansett School Chorus for a special performance at the Guild Hall Student Arts Festival Opening Ceremony on Saturday, January 25th!! Stay tuned for more information to follow!
Our Recess Music Program is also up and in full swing! I encourage you to share the recess offerings with your children and remind them that they can come in to any of the activities whenever they want :) What a wonderful way to add more diversity to our schools music offerings! |
Performance Music Classes:

Chorus Classes: | The Chorus has also been invited to perform at a very special upcoming community event! Parents, please add this dates to your family calendar as our best performance will be made if ALL students attend each performance: ** GUILD HALL ANNUAL STUDENT ARTS FESTIVAL OPENING CONCERT SATURDAY, JANUARY 25, 2020 @3:30 PM at Guild Hall in East Hampton |
String Classes: | String students have been making AMAZING progress so far this year! The Kindergartners have learned how to hold their bow and use it properly and are excitedly awaiting the addition of real violins to their class periods! First and Second Graders are hard at work mastering holding the violin and the bow at the same time as we begin our very first songs! Third Graders have been joining me on Thursdays at Recess to form a violin club and are learning how to hold the violin, bow, and play some introductory songs! Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Graders have come together to form our Tuesday Afternoon orchestra! We meet each week on Tuesday after school and have begun learning some tunes which we hope to perform later this year! A special "Thank You" to: Malachai (5 - cello), Willow (4 - Cello), Lola (4 - viola), Clemens (4 - viola), Chloe (4 - violin), and Nathan (6 - violin) for embracing this new program and working as hard as possible to learn to play not only their band instruments but also their brand new string instruments!!! I am VERY excited to begin this journey with you and your children!! Parents and parent involvement is an essential part of a students success in music, particularly in the Suzuki style of teaching. Although we can't have parents attend each and every one of our class meetings, it will be very important for your child's success that they begin practicing at home and that they see you excited and enthusiastic about all of their violin playing. Be sure to check your child's string class page often. I will be posting videos, handouts, songs, and other helpful materials there for each of our classes to help build this bridge from violin at school to violin at home! You can see exactly what we learned in Violin Class HERE. |
