This is it, the big week is here...concert week!! Our annual "Holiday Concert" is this Thursday night, December 8th at 6:00 PM. The Fourth Grade Beginning Band and the Fifth and Sixth Grade Concert Band are sooo excited to share all of their hard work with you at this year's annual "Holiday Concert!"
The Fourth Graders celebrated their victory in the First Quarter Battle of the Bands Competition with special cupcakes and their trophy in their classroom this past Friday during lunch time. The students all enjoyed this special reward for being the most prepared and well practiced class this quarter. Keep up the great work Fourth Graders (and remember, Fifth or Sixth Grade could steal your trophy next quarter so make sure those instruments, band binders, and practice sheets keep coming in on time each week.)
We also need to celebrate our November Perfect Practicers. Congratulations to: Maya (4), Brandon (4), Ava (4), Jocelyn (4), Kyle (5), Lyla (6), Lucas (6), and Olivia (6). These students have rememebred their instrument, music, and practice sheet every single week for the month of November! We will celebrate their achievement with certificates and a special luncheon provided by Mrs. Kamp on Friday during lunch time. Stay tuned to find out what the surprise lunch item will be :)
And a super special congratulations goes out ot this years HMEA (Hamptons Music Educators Association) participants. The following students were nominated to participate in the prestigious Hamptons Music Educators Association Regional Music Festival back in October based on their outstanding effort and dedication in our school's music program as well as their NYSSMA festival scores. We have just heard from the festival chair people that each of them were accepted into the festival. These students from Amagansett will join students from the entire Hamptons area to rehearse and perform a sepcial concert later in January. Congratulations to:

** HMEA CHORUS:

In other news.....
The Buzzword last week was ACCENT and it means: "an emphasis placed on a particular note or set of notes, either as a result of its context or specifically indicated by an accent mark. Accentscontribute to the articulation and prosody of a performance of a musical phrase." This week's Buzzword is ACCELERANDO. Do you know what that music word means or can you find its definition?? Everyone can get involved by checking the music room Buzzword poster or checking the Music Homepage for the weekly buzzword and bringing in a definition on a buzzword card. Special prizes for everyone who participates :)
It's a new month and, with the change of the calendar, comes a change of composers. This month's "Maestro of the Month" is Ludwig van Beethoven. Beethoven's stroy of overcoming adversity and incredible odds to continue composing even after he became completely deaf is one of my favorite composer stories. What an inspiration to our students that, if you put your mind to it, you can really do anything you want to do! Check your child's go home folder for this month's composer fact sheet as well as the directions for how to become a "music detective" and have their work featured on the bulletin board outside the music classroom and on the Music Website!
Kindergarten through Sixth Grade continue final push of preparations in General Music and Chorus classes for our big bi-annual winter musical, "The Big Chill!" Students will be coming together wit the whole school during the afternoons the next two Mondays to rehearse the entire show from beginning to end. It's soo exciting to watch the children as they see the whole performance coming together! It's even better to see how wonderfully they all support their friends in each of their "star moments" and other special features! The classes are all putting the finishing touches on their "Star Moment" songs and dances as well as some other special surprises. Fifth and Sixth graders have been hard at work memorizing lines, blocking scenes on stage with Mrs. Hren and our "Junior Director," Iona, and learning all sorts of AMAZING choreography for their big numbers with the help of our "Junior Choreographer," Lua. Most classes will be starting to spend a lot of time on stage learning where to stand and how to use the microphones so that everyone will be able to hear all of their hard work. Students should keep their ears open for announcements about Scenery Workshop in the Art Room during recess. this special team of students in grades 3 - 6 will work with Ms. Paris to create the scenery, props, and even some costumes for our big production!!
The show is shaping up to be a wonderful opening to the Holiday season and we hope you will all be able to join us for some winter magic on Tuesday, December 20th at 6:00 PM. Want to know more about what your child's been up to in General Music Class or Chorus? Click here and find your child's grade level to find out :)
Thanks for reading. I hope you are all enjoying this special weekly glimpse into the music room and that it is inspiring you to talk about music with your children and further explore the music website.
Don't forget to stay connected by joining our Music Department Google Calendar and our Remind App reminders for Beginning and Concert Band Students.
Hope to see you all at our upcoming productions as we ring in the season by sharing some musical holiday cheer!
