This is it, the big week is here...musical week!! Our bi-annual all school winter musical, "The Best Gift EVER" is this Thursday night, December 13th at 6:00 PM. All of the children are sooo excited to share all of their hard work with you! Click here and find out more information about your child's part in the big show!
This week, volunteer students from the Third through Sixth Grade Chorus will be traveling to the East Hampton Senior Nutrition Center to spread some holiday cheer by caroling during their lunch program. This trip is always a big hit with the students and the seniors and I can't wait to go visit again. I am so proud that so many of our students have volunteered to dedicate their recess period this Friday to sharing the music of the season with others and bringing a smile to the seniors at the center. There's still time to sign up for the trip if you have not done so yet. Click here to download a copy of the permission slip and hand it back to Mrs. Kamp by TOMORROW, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 11th, if you would like to join us.
Our Weekly Info: | The Buzzword for last week was SCORE and it means: "this is the written down version of music. Generally for a complex piece that shows the music for a number of musical instruments. " Thank you to all students who participated! I love seeing you go that extra mile at home to do some research and broaden your musical vocabularies! There will be no Buzzword this week due to our rehearsal schedule for the Winter Musical. Check back next week to play again! It's a new month and, with the change of the calendar, comes a change of composers. This month's "Maestro of the Month" is Ludwig van Beethoven. Beethoven's story of overcoming adversity and incredible odds to continue composing even after he became completely deaf is one of my favorite composer stories. What an inspiration to our students that, if you put your mind to it, you can really do anything you want to do! Check your child's go home folder for this month's composer fact sheet as well as the directions for how to become a "music detective" and have their work featured on the bulletin board outside the music classroom and on the Music Website! |
General and Performance Music
Students in our Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 are preparing special holiday carols to share with their family and friends later next week. The children will also be traveling around the school and stopping in each classroom to do some holiday caroling next week. We are very excited about both of these opportunities to spread some holiday magic :)
Kindergarten through Sixth Grade continue final push of preparations in General Music and Chorus classes for our big bi-annual winter musical, "The Best Gift EVER!" Students will be coming together wit the whole school during the afternoons this Wednesday and next Thursday to rehearse the entire show from beginning to end. It's soo exciting to watch the children as they see the whole performance coming together! It's even better to see how wonderfully they all support their friends in each of their "star moments" and other special features!
The classes are all putting the finishing touches on their "Star Moment" songs and dances as well as some other special surprises. Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth graders have been hard at work memorizing lines, blocking scenes on stage with Mrs. Mitchell and our "Junior Director," Lissie, and learning all sorts of AMAZING choreography for their big numbers.
Most classes will be starting to spend a lot of time on stage learning where to stand and how to use the microphones so that everyone will be able to hear all of their hard work. Students should keep their ears open for announcements about Scenery Workshop in the Art Room during recess. this special team of students in grades 3 - 6 will work with Ms. Paris to create the scenery, props, and even some costumes for our big production!!
The show is shaping up to be a wonderful opening to the Holiday season and we hope you will all be able to join us for some winter magic on THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13th at 6:00 PM.
Important notices about your child's costume were sent home last week. In case you missed them, you can download a copy here:
