Our Weekly Info: | The Buzzword for last week was OCTAVE and it means: "In music, an octave has all notes (A,B,C,D,E,F,G) as well as their sharps and flats included. This octave is repeated in both higher and lower pitches. So the next higher A note, after the note you are playing, is considered one octave higher." Thank you to Izzy (1), Jack (1), Paloma (2), Omar (2), and Vance (2) for playing last week's Buzzword Game!! There's no Buzzword this week due to the Thanksgiving Holiday, but check back next week to find a brand new word and keep those vocabularies growing! This month, our composer comes from the Romantic Period and was highly influential in the genre of american patriotic music....Mr. John Phillip Sousa!! You can see the facts that the children have brought in about Mr. Sousa on display outside the music room or on the home page of this website :) Be sure to check your child's red folder tomorrow to learn all about Mr. November and become a music detective once more :) |
General and Performance Music:
The arrival of November also brought our Pre-K classes into the famous "Turkey Wobble!" Our Kindergarten, First, Second, and Third Grade classes will also begin preparations for a special mini play and songs about Thanksgiving to be shared at this year's Thanksgiving Feast! Be sure to check out the new ways that Pre-K classes will be connecting music with literacy and their classroom weekly themes.
Students in all grades are also hard at work beginning to learn their "Star Moment" songs for this year's Bi-Annual All School Holiday Musical, "The Best Gift EVER!" The cast has been set...rehearsals have begun...and the excitement is building to share all of our hard work with you when the show premiers in the school gym on Thursday, December 13th at 6:00 PM. Stay tuned at your child's individual music class website and right here at the music blog for updates and information about this special event :)
In the Performance Music world everyone is busy preparing selections to perform at our annual Holiday concert on Thursday, December 20th at 6:00PM! We can't wait to show you how much we've grown as musicians since September!!! All of our instrumental lessons and band classes are doing GREAT!! Students are off to an excellent start remembering their instruments, music and practice sheets and have been earning tons of points for their individual classes in Battle of the Bands. Although Fourth Grade had been in the lead, Fifth Grade managed to sneak in, earn a bunch of extra points at the last minute, and steal this quarter's Battle of the Band's Trophy!! Congratulations to all Fifth Grade students on this special achievement!!! We will be celebrating with a party of the Fifth Grade Class's choice when we return from the Thanksgiving Break!
Remember, the game starts over again after Thanksgiving Break, so get those instruments, band binders, and completed practice sheets to school each week and help your class on the journey towards Battle of the Bands Championships! Will Fifth Grade keep the trophy?? Will Fourth Grade or Sixth Grade steal it?? Stay tuned right here to find out!!
