We've loved sharing this journey with you and hope you're enjoying the special Gianna features too :)
Our Weekly Info: | This week's Buzzword is VIBRATO. Do you know what that word's musical definition is? Can you look it up? Join the fun by completing this week's Buzzword Challenge!! We will be finishing up our unit of study about our composer of the month, Sergie Prokofiev. We have been listening to his music and learning facts about his life each class. Many classes have also completed a special video and art activity about one of his most famous pieces of work, Peter and the Wolf!! Check your child's go home folder for this month's composer fact sheet as well as the directions for how to become a "music detective" and have their work featured on the bulletin board outside the music classroom and on the Music Website! |
Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 students will be busy connecting music to their classroom letters and themes. We will also be continuing our work with our monthly nursery rhyme and our study of beat, rhythm, singing, and playing instruments through various activities. We will also be getting some special visits from some of the Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Grade students who are preparing to perform in the NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) State Solo Festival at the beginning of May. The students will be sharing their pieces with our class as they work to get those performance jitters out :) We can't wait to show our hard work, dedication, and musical growth to the younger classes!!! Kindergartners and First Graders will continue learning the building blocks of music and working with a mix of melody and rhythm days where we will use the Rhythm Band Curriculum and the Pre-School Prodigies Curriculum to build our musical vocabularies and skills! On our Rhythm Day, we will be taking a game that we've been playing through Pre-School Prodigies and composing our own variation of it. We will also be exploring "body percussion" and doing some classroom composing / improvising activities incorporating this special musical skill!! On Melody Day, we'll be expanding our work with the pitches of the major scale and bringing more notes into our chord study. How exciting!! In a special cross-curricular project, we will be beginning to work on composing our own songs about the community helper we have chosen to research in the Kindergarten classroom!! These songs, along with projects from the other special area classes will be shared at a special "Community Helpers Celebration" in the Kindergarten classroom later this spring!! We LOVE combining what we are learning in our Kindergarten Classroom with what we are learning in the Music Room!!!! Second and Third Graders will be beginning a special unit about the instruments of the orchestra as we prepare to choose what instrument we will be playing in next year's Beginning Band program!!! Through the magic of the internet, the children will be heading out with Carnegie Hall's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra and exploring the wonderful world of instrumental music!!!! | General Music Classes |
Performance Music Classes | DUE TO STATE MATH TESTING, THERE WILL BE NO FIFTH OR SIXTH GRADE INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS THIS WEEK!! STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO PRACTICE A LITTLE EXTRA AT HOME OR TO COME IN AND SEE MRS. KAMP FOR SOME EXTRA PRACTICE ON TUESDAY, THURSDAY, OR FRIDAY DURING RECESS TIME. NYSSMA STUDENTS WILL BE PERFORMING THEIR SOLOS FOR THE YOUNGER GRADES DURING SOME OF THEIR AFTERNOON MUSIC CLASSES :) Fourth graders will be continuing their work as the Amagansett School Beginning Band and moving forward with their work in Band Brilliance. We are excited to announce that we have chosen our complete program for our upcoming performance at the Spring Concert and we absolutely cannot wait to share it with you!!!!! In case you're wondering....you should be hearing a lot of practicing of: - Ode to Joy - Theme From First Symphony - London Bridge - Frere Jacques and one special secret other song :) as we prepare for our biggest performance yet :) :) Concert Band students will now be meeting twice a week for band class (Tuesdays and Fridays) and will be beginning to work on an exciting selection of repertoire for our Spring Concert in May! At this point, you can help your children to practice along with the play alongs posted on the Concert Band webpage. Students should be feeling increasingly comfortable playing their part in: Furioso, Comet Ride, The Silver Scepter, Aliens Landing in YOUR Backyard, and T-Rex Rocks. Chorus class will also be seeing the introduction of repertoire for our Spring Concert in May. Last week, we began working on: Thunder, Remember Me, Seize the Day, and A Million Dreams. Parents, it might be a good idea to save your child's band web page so you can reference it for important information including practice sheets, band repertoire play alongs, the instrumental program google calendar, and, my favorite, our Remind App :) |
Rehearsals for the show have begun and will be held DURING RECESS in the Music Room every MONDAY and WEDNESDAY until the show. This week, we're planning to head down to the stage to work on choreography and blocking with our AMAZING parent volunteer, Mrs. Skrenta!!! The children are SOOOOO excited to work with Mrs. Skrenta and I cannot thank her enough for volunteering her time to help make "Willy Wonka" the BEST production we've ever done!!!! WEDNESDAY'S REHEARSAL WILL BE CANCELLED TO ALLOW STUDENTS TO HEAD OUTSIDE AND ENJOY SOME FRESH AIR AND RUNNING AROUND AFTER A MORNING OF STATE TESTING :) Parents, please help your young actor or actress rehearse their lines at home so that we can memorize our material quickly and get downstairs on the stage to add blocking, music, and choreography as soon as possible :) | Recess Drama Club |
