Our Weekly Info: | The Buzzword last week was DECRESCENDO and it means, "To gradually get softer and quieter in a piece of music...the opposite of a crescendo." Thank you to everyone who participated, including: Kaya (5), Noelly (2), Macy (2), Isabella (2), Johana (1), and Chloe (1). The Buzzword for this week is LEIT MOTIF. Do you know what that word's musical definition is (I'll give you a hint...it has something to do wit the new Composer of the month we just began studying)? Can you look it up? Join the fun by completing this week's Buzzword Challenge!! Another new month brings another new Composer of the Month! This month the children will be learning about Sergie Prokofiev as we listen to his music and learn facts about his life each class. We'll also be doing some special activities with one of his most famous compositions, Peter and The Wolf. Be sure to ask your children all about this exciting musical story over the next few weeks. Check your child's go home folder for this month's composer fact sheet as well as the directions for how to become a "music detective" and have their work featured on the bulletin board outside the music classroom and on the Music Website! |
General and Performance Music
Chorus, Concert Band, and Beginning Band will be celebrating their OUTSTANDING Spring Concert, held on Thursday, April 6th, as we watch the concert video in class this week and complete some concert self evaluations. I am so proud of all of your hard work with this concert!! It was definitely one of the best yet!!
A reminder to any student who missed the concert...your 2 page composer biography essay is due to Mrs. Kamp by the end of the day TODAY, MONDAY, APRIL 17th. Remember that you NEED to complete this assignment in order to receive credit for both band and chorus classes this quarter.
NYSSMA students continue to work diligently on mastering their Solos and Scales in preparation for this year's NYSSMA solo festival. We've got about 3 more weeks to go so now is the time to start polishing up your scales, solos, and sight reading and getting ready to show your stuff! I am hoping to organize two more "TEAM NYSSMA" performances over the next two weeks...one for the Pre-K classes and one for the NYSSMA students to just perform for one another.
Stay tuned for updates about your child's performance date and time slot as they come in :) Check out the new schedule here and be sure to mark your child's new lesson date and time on your family calendar. You can also visit the Festivals Page for more information about NYSSMA as well as play along and sing along tracks to help your child practice for this prestigious event :)
Recess Drama Club Update: | The performance date for Aladdin Kids! has officially been set! We look forward to our friends, families, and schoolmates joining us for the performance of the show on FRIDAY, JUNE 2nd at 2:00 PM. The students of the Recess Drama Club have been hard at work preparing for Aladdin Kids! With the arrival of the warm, sunny weather, we anticipate moving rehearsals to the stage this week to being actual blocking, dance choreography, and staging of the show. Costumes are also on their way...this is getting really exciting!! Parents of cast members, now is the time to begin memorizing all of our lines and song lyrics. Please help your young performer with this important task by practicing lines at home. All cast members will need to be "Off Book" (or able to rehearse without their scripts) starting now :) It might also be a great time to check out Aladdin the movie or search up Aladdin Kids on Youtube so that you can get a glimpse of what we will be doing. Check out more information about this exciting program HERE. |
