Our Weekly Info: | This week, we will begin to learn all about our new Composer of the Month, Mr. February, George Frideric Handle as we listen to his music and learn facts about his life each class. Who will be the first person to bring in a fact about Mr. Handle????? Check your child's go home folder for this month's composer fact sheet as well as the directions for how to become a "music detective" and have their work featured on the Music Website! We also celebrated Groundhog Day this week!! |
Groundhog Day
A popular tradition celebrated in the United States and Canada on February 2nd. It comes from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a Groundhog comes out of its burrow and sees its shadow due to clear weather, it will go back in and there will be 6 more weeks of winter. If, however, it does not see its shadow because it is cloudy out, there will be an early Spring.

String Classes:
Due to COVID-19 protocols, there are no violins available to share.
SECOND GRADERS HAVE VIOLIN CLASS ON WEDNESDAY.
THIRD GRADERS HAVE VIOLIN CLASS ON THURSDAY.
Third Graders have begun adding reading music to our string classes and are currently working out of the Suzuki Violin Volume 1 method book. Students can find links to the pages we are practicing in their Google Assignments tabs. For now, books will remain at school so please print a copy of your pages out for at home practice. I can't wait to see how far we can go with the violin this year!!
Kindergarteners and First Graders have also been making fantastic progress in string class!!!! They all know all of the parts of the instrument, how to hold the violin and the bow, and how to play many songs on the open strings! Over the next few weeks, we'll be expanding our open string repertoire and possibly adding some work using our fingers on the strings!!!
Parents and parent involvement is an essential part of a students success in music, particularly in the Suzuki style of teaching. Although we can't have parents attend each and every one of our class meetings, it will be very important for your child's success that they begin practicing at home and that they see you excited and enthusiastic about all of their violin playing.

Be sure to check your child's string class page often. I will be posting videos, handouts, songs, and other helpful materials there for each of our classes to help build this bridge from violin at school to violin at home!
