I hope everyone has recovered from Halloween!! I know we had a LOT of fun celebrating Gianna's First Halloween!!! Now it's time to switch gears and start preparing for our first ever Veteran's Salute in honor of Veteran's Day, the annual Thanksgiving Feast, and, of course, our big band and chorus Holiday Concert!! Boy do we have a LOT of exciting things coming up in the next few weeks!!! |
Our Weekly Info: | The Buzzword for last week was EMBOUCHURE and it means: "The way in which a musician applies their mouth to the mouthpiece of a brass or woodwind instrument to produce the sounds." Thank you to Lola (2), Willow (2), and Johanna (2) for playing last week's Buzzword Game!! Our new Buzzword is SOUSAPHONE. Do you know what that means? Can you find the answer? I'll give you a hint....it is VERY closely related to some information we shared about this month's Composer of the Month, John Phillip Sousa!! If you would like to pay the Buzzword game this week, remember...you can check the Buzzword board and get a card or print one off the website HERE...looking forward to playing this game and watching your musical vocabularies grow every week!!! This month we have a special Composer of the Month Feature!! For the first time, ever, we will be saluting two different composers this month!! Our first composer comes from the Romantic Period and was highly influential in the genre of american patriotic music....Mr. John Phillip Sousa!! Our second composer of the month comes from right here in the Amagansett community....by request from Greta from First Grade, we will also be saluting her father, composer Carter Burwell this month!! You can see the facts that the children have brought in about Mr. Sousa and Mr. Burwell on display outside the music room or on the home page of this website :) Be sure to check your child's red folder tomorrow to learn all about Mr. November and become a music detective once more :) |
General and Performance Music
The arrival of November also brought our Pre-K classes into the famous "Turkey Wobble!" Our Kindergarten, First, Second, and Third Grade classes will also begin preparations for a special mini play and songs about Thanksgiving to be shared at this year's Thanksgiving Feast! Be sure to check out the new ways that Pre-K classes will be connecting music with literacy and their classroom weekly themes, and the new song of the month for our Second, Third, and Fourth Grade Orffestras!!
In the Performance Music world everyone is busy preparing selections to perform at our annual Holiday concert on Wednesday, December 13th at 6:00PM! We can't wait to show you how much we've grown as musicians since September!!! All of our instrumental lessons and band classes are doing GREAT!! Students are off to an excellent start remembering their instruments, music and practice sheets and have been earning tons of points for their individual classes in Battle of the Bands. Right now, Fourth Grade is in the lead, but watch out....the end of the marking period is coming up soon....who will hold the First Quarter Trophy??????
