Exciting "Shout Outs" for the Amagansett Concert Band | The Amagansett School Fifth and Sixth Grade Concert Band will be performing a piece called the Shark Shuffle at our upcoming Spring Concert. Mrs. Kamp happens to be friends with the composer of the piece, Mr. Bradley Hartman and our ensemble was just recognized on his composer website for our upcoming performance of the piece!! Due to the snowstorm, many classes did not have a chance to participate int he Buzzword Game last week. We will be keeping this same Buzzword around for another week so that everyone ahs a chance to participate :) The new Buzzword is REFRAIN. Do you know what that word's musical definition is? Can you look it up? Join the fun by completing this week's Buzzword Challenge!! We've begun a new month, and with it, came a new composer of the month! This month, we begin our salute to "Maestro of the Month," George Frideric Handel as we listen to his music and learn facts about his life each class. Check your child's go home folder for this month's composer fact sheet as well as the directions for how to become a "music detective" and have their work featured on the bulletin board outside the music classroom and on the Music Website! A special thank you to Willow, (1) and, Noelley (2) and Isabelle(2) for submitting some very interesting Handel Facts!! General and Performance MusicThere will be lots of new songs, dances, musical facts, and more being explored in each area of the General Music Program, so be sure to check HERE to find out specific information about what discoveries your child's class will be making as we begin the month of February! Many classes have begun integrated units in music class as we salute African american contributions to the music world including Jazz and the Blues in coordination with classroom projects about Black History Month. Also, in case you are interested in more detailed information about your child's monthly music curriculum, be sure to visit their "Curriculum Guide Section" after selecting their grade level because all grades / programs February Curriculum Outlines have now been posted :) The Performance Music classes have a lot going on, too. Both Beginning and Concert Band have received new music and are starting to prepare for the Spring Concert. Play Along recordings of some of the selections are available for students to begin practicing with. You can find all sorts of important information about the Band Programs HERE. The music schedule has also been adjusted to allow for NYSSMA lessons to begin. Check out the new schedule here and be sure to mark your child's new lesson date and time on your family calendar. You can also visit the Festivals Page for more information about NYSSMA as well as play along and sing along tracks to help your child practice for this prestigious event :) Sixth Graders celebrated their Battle of the Bands Victory for the Second Quarter with a cupcake and "Lorax" party during lunch on Monday, February 13th. Keep up the GREAT work Sixth Grade!! Lets see who ends up with the trophy for the Third Quarter :) We also saluted January's Members of the "Perfect Practicer's Club:" FOURTH GRADE: Brandon FIFTH GRADE: Kyle SIXTH GRADE: Lyla Carli Olivia These students celebrated with some special Dunkin Donuts treats at lunch time on Tuesday, February 14th :) The Chorus will also be beginning to learn new repertoire for the Spring Concert.
