Celebrating Multicultural Night:
| The Amagansett School Student Council hosted its third annual Multicultural Night this past Thursday. What an AMAZING event!!! Here's a small slideshow of some of the highlights. Make sure you check out the Music Department Homepage to see video clips of some of our performers from this special event :) |
Once a Musician.... Always a Musician......
So Mrs. Kamp spent this past weekend playing in an alumni concert back at the University of Rhode Island where she got her undergraduate Music Education Degree back in 2005. It's amazing to get the opportunity to go back on stage with your friends from college and see where everyone is teaching and performing now! Here's a glimpse into what a college alumni concert looks like........ | |

Our Weekly Info: | This week, the Buzzword is IMPROVISATION. Do you know what improvisation means? Can you find out? I'll give you a hint....if you're in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade, we're focusing on African American's contributions to the world of music for Black History Month this month and our Buzzword ties in nicely to this theme......Take a card and let the games begin :) We also welcome this month's "Maestro of the Month" is George Frideric Handel as we listen to his music and learn facts about his life before our play practices. Check your child's go home folder for this month's composer fact sheet as well as the directions for how to become a "music detective" and have their work featured on the bulletin board outside the music classroom and on the Music Website! |
General and Performance Music:
All levels of music class will be tying our music class instruction in with this month's celebration of Black History Month as well! In music class, we'll be learning all about the important contributions of African Americans to the world of music including Jazz, the Blues, African American Spirituals, Scat Singing, Improvising, and soooooo much more!!
Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 students will be busy connecting music to their classroom letters and themes.
Kindergartners and First Graders will be learning the building blocks of music and working with a mix of melody and rhythm days where we will use the Rhythm Band Curriculum and the Pre-School Prodigies Curriculum to build our musical vocabularies and skills!
Second Grade is busy adding new recorder karate songs to their repertoire! We'll be introduced to our new Purple Belt Song!!! What will it be, I wonder...make sure to ask your child when they come home on Wednesday and check out the Recorder Resources tab on their page to help with your at home practice :)
Third Graders and Fourth Graders will be back in action as their class Orffestra, mastering a new song and some special new skills this month!!
In the instrumental music world, we've got some super exciting things going on!!
Fifth and Sixth Grade Concert Band students are working through their repertoire for this year's Spring Concert. Check out the practice resources on their class web page and let's get back into practicing!! Also, a reminder that the Band Karate Belt Challenge stills stands... can anyone besides Natalie (6) achieve Black Belt this year??????
Fourth graders will be continuing their work as the Amagansett School Beginning Band and moving forward with their work in Band Brilliance. They will also be beginning their first ever complete band piece!!
Chorus class will also be seeing the introduction of repertoire for our Spring Concert in May.
Festival season is beginning which has necessitated large changes to our music lesson schedule to accommodate lessons for NYSSMA, SCMEA, and HMEA. Parents are encouraged to check their child's lesson schedule and go over lesson days with their child so that everyone can be prepared for each and every lesson :)
Recess Drama Club: | We are excited to announce that there was enough interest to order Cinderella Kids! Auditions will be held TODAY, MONDAY, FEBRUARY 11th at RECESS in the MUSIC ROOM!!! I can't wait to get started with this AMAZING production!!! |
