Our Weekly Info: | The Buzzword for this week is CESURA. Do you now what it means?? Can you find out?? Check the Buzzword board each week to find out the new word...grab a card and write the word down. Head home and look up the definition of the word. Bring it back to Mrs. Kamp and receive a prize on Friday :) looking forward to playing this game and watching your musical vocabularies grow every week!!! We continue celebrating our next Composer of the Month, Franz Liszt as we listen to his music and learn facts about his life each class. You can see the facts that they learned about Mr. Liszt on display outside the music room or on the home page of this website :) Check your child's go home folder for this month's composer fact sheet as well as the directions for how to become a "music detective" and have their work featured on the bulletin board outside the music classroom and on the Music Website! |
General Music:
**Pre-K 3 and 4 will be celebrating fall themed songs and continuing to work on their Halloween songs!
**Kindergarten also continues to explore the world of music, learning our hello routines and songs, experimenting with the different classroom instruments. We have begun incorporating our Pre-School Prodigies lessons with Mr. Rob and our Rhythm Band Curriculum into each class visit...making music a VERY Exciting place to be! We will also be celebrating Halloween this week with some special Halloween songs, dances, and games!
**First Graders are exploring the very many ways that music can be....loud / soft...fast / slow, etc. We're having fun with songs, games, instruments, dancing, and some pretty cool surprises as we build our music vocabularies and learn to speak the language of music. We will be incorporating all of these musical elements into some special spooky Halloween fun as we prepare for the Halloween on Thursday!
**Second Graders are well on their way to mastering their second song in the Recorder Karate Program, "Gently Sleep" and will be taking their yellow belt tests this week! After we test, make sure you check the class page HERE to hear a recording of the whole class' performance :) And now it's on to begin preparing our Orange Belt song, "Merrily We Roll Along!" Parents, you can find more information about the recorder program HERE along with some helpful links for at home practice :)
**Third Graders are "putting it all together" as we take all of the material we learned since Kindergarten and incorporate it into performing in our classroom "Orffestra!" We have mastered our first Orffestra song, "Gently Sleep" and are starting our new song "Merrily We Roll Along." We're hoping to post a recording soon so make sure you stay tuned!! Want to learn more about the Orffestra....click HERE.
Our Recess Music Program is also up and in full swing! I encourage you to share the recess offerings with your children and remind them that they can come in to any of the activities whenever they want :) What a wonderful way to add more diversity to our schools music offerings! |

Fourth Graders have mastered the first 4 notes on their instruments and are racing their way through our Band Brilliance Books! Fifth and Sixth Graders are well on their way through the first three pieces for the Holiday Concert in December! The "Battle of the Bands" between grades 4, 5, and 6 is back up and running! Right now 4th grade is in the lead.....will they hold the lead into next week?? or will they loose their spot as more students come prepared with their instrument, music, and completed practice sheet for each lesson and band class?? CONCERT BAND (FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADES)
Check out the new Instrumental Lessons Schedule here and be sure to mark your child's new lesson date and time on your family calendar.
Chorus Classes: | Students in our Third through Sixth Grade Chorus will meet for the first time today! We will be working on American Patriotic Songs to share at "Wake-Up Amagansett" Presentations as well as some special songs to share at our Veterans Celebration in November. Students will also begin working on the repertoire for this year's "Holiday Concert" in December!! |
String Classes: | String students have been making AMAZING progress so far this year! The Kindergartners have learned how to hold their bow and use it properly and are excitedly awaiting the addition of real violins to their class periods! First and Second Graders are hard at work mastering holding the violin and the bow at the same time as we begin our very first songs! Third Graders have been joining me on Thursdays at Recess to form a violin club and are learning how to hold the violin, bow, and play some introductory songs! Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Graders have come together to form our Tuesday Afternoon orchestra! We meet each week on Tuesday after school and have begun learning some tunes which we hope to perform later this year! A special "Thank You" to: Malachai (5 - cello), Willow (4 - Cello), Lola (4 - viola), Clemens (4 - viola), Chloe (4 - violin), and Nathan (6 - violin) for embracing this new program and working as hard as possible to learn to play not only their band instruments but also their brand new string instruments!!! I am VERY excited to begin this journey with you and your children!! Parents and parent involvement is an essential part of a students success in music, particularly in the Suzuki style of teaching. Although we can't have parents attend each and every one of our class meetings, it will be very important for your child's success that they begin practicing at home and that they see you excited and enthusiastic about all of their violin playing. |
