Our Weekly Info: | The Buzzword last week was SONATA and it means, "a song written for one or more musical instruments playing solo." Thank you to all of the First, Second, and Third Grade students who participated in this weeks challenge!! GREAT JOB!! This week, the Buzzword is IMPROVISATION. Do you know what improvisation means? Can you find out? I'll give you a hint....if you're in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade, we're focusing on African American's contributions to the world of music for Black History Month this month and our Buzzword ties in nicely to this theme......Take a card and let the games begin :) We also welcome this month's "Maestro of the Month" is George Frideric Handel as we listen to his music and learn facts about his life before our play practices. Check your child's go home folder for this month's composer fact sheet as well as the directions for how to become a "music detective" and have their work featured on the bulletin board outside the music classroom and on the Music Website! |
General and Performance Music:

Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 students will be busy connecting music to their classroom letters and themes.
Kindergartners and First Graders will be learning the building blocks of music and working with a mix of melody and rhythm days where we will use the Rhythm Band Curriculum and the Pre-School Prodigies Curriculum to build our musical vocabularies and skills!
Second Grade is busy adding new recorder karate songs to their repertoire! We'll be introduced to our new Purple Belt Song!!! What will it be, I wonder...make sure to ask your child when they come home on Wednesday and check out the Recorder Resources tab on their page to help with your at home practice :)
Third Graders and Fourth Graders will be back in action as their class Orffestra, mastering a new song and some special new skills this month!!
In the instrumental music world, we've got some super exciting things going on!!
Fifth and Sixth Grade Concert Band students are working through their repertoire for this year's Spring Concert. Check out the practice resources on their class web page and let's get back into practicing!! Festival season is beginning which has necessitated large changes to our music lesson schedule to accommodate lessons for NYSSMA, SCMEA, and HMEA. Parents are encouraged to check their child's lesson schedule and go over lesson days with their child so that everyone can be prepared for each and every lesson :)
