Our Weekly Info: | The Buzzword for last week was MAJOR SCALE and it means: "A diatonic scale with notes separated by whole tones except the 3rd and 4th and 7th and 8th which are separated by half tones. In solfege, we call this: Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-La-Ti-Do" Thank you to Lola (2), Willow (2), and Nathan (4) for playing last week's Buzzword Game!! Our new Buzzword is PITCH. Do you know what that means? Can you find the answer? If you would like to pay the Buzzword game this week, remember...you can check the Buzzword board and get a card or print one off the website HERE...looking forward to playing this game and watching your musical vocabularies grow every week!!! October has brought us a brand new Composer of the Month, Franz Liszt. Thank you to Lola (2) and Greta (2) for bringing in some wonderful facts to add to our Composer Bulletin Board!! You can see the facts that they learned about Mr. Liszt on display outside the music room or on the home page of this website :) Check your child's go home folder for this month's composer fact sheet as well as the directions for how to become a "music detective" and have their work featured on the bulletin board outside the music classroom and on the Music Website! |
General and Performance Music
In the Performance Music world, all of our instrumental lessons and band classes are doing GREAT!! Students are off to an excellent start remembering their instruments, music and practice sheets and have been earning tons of points for their individual classes in Battle of the Bands. Right now, Fourth Grade is in the lead, but watch out....Fifth and Sixth Grade still have plenty of time to catch up to you :)
Besides working on our "light themed" holiday concert, the Chorus is busy preparing a vast repertoire of American Patriotic Songs to share with you at our Veteran's Day Celebration on Thursday, November 9th at 8:00 AM. Please spread the word and be sure to join us as we honor our Veterans and those currently serving and thank them for all they do to keep us safe! If you know of a Veteran or Active Duty Service Person who would like to be honored at this celebration, please contact the school and provide us with their contact information so that we may reach out to as many people as possible!!
Two brand new exciting ensembles are being added to our school's musical offerings this week!! We will be meeting for these ensembles during recess and all interested students are welcome to come learn more about them during this week's introductory meetings. Stay tuned for permission slips and more information coming home later this week.
Open to students in 3rd through 6th grade who would like to work on harmony parts for our Chorus concert repertoire as well as some other special performances
Thursdays at Recess -------------- "Wake-Up Amagansett Band"
Inspired by my friends at Chlemsford Middle School in Massachusetts and their "Friday Lobby Band" (yes, google them, they are AWESOME) this ensemble is open to students in grades 4 through 6 and will be performing selections to entertain our audience as they arrive for each Wake-Up Amagansett Presentation. We will be learning songs to coordinate with the Wake-Up Amagansett theme, starting with Patriotic songs to add to our Veteran's Day Celebration!
Nathan (4)
Nathan has joined students from the past on our Band Karate Wall of Fame!! I can't wait to make this wall grow even more this year!!!
Stay tuned for updates about your child's performance date and time slot as they come in :) Check out the new schedule here and be sure to mark your child's new lesson date and time on your family calendar.
Don't forget to stay connected by joining our Music Department Google Calendar and our Remind App reminders for Beginning and Concert Band Students.
