Our Weekly Info: | The Buzzword for last week was VIBRATO, and it means, "a slightly tremulous effect imparted to vocal or instrumental tone for added warmth and expressiveness by slight and rapid variations in pitch." Thank you to all of the Second and Third Grade Students who participated in this week's challenge! I LOVE watching your music vocabularies grow!! This weeks' Buzzword is, MINUET. Do you know what that word's musical definition is? Can you look it up? I'Join the fun by completing this week's Buzzword Challenge!! We will be introduced to our May composer of the month, Richard Wagner, as we listen to his music and learn facts about his life each class. Check your child's go home folder for this month's composer fact sheet as well as the directions for how to become a "music detective" and have their work featured on the bulletin board outside the music classroom and on the Music Website! |
Parents are encouraged to check their child's music class page to see all of the new things we will be learning in music class this month! Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 students will be busy connecting music to their classroom letters and themes. We'll be connecting to our classroom study of the letter "D" and the theme of "Dinosaurs" as we sing some fun songs about dinosaurs. Kindergartners and First Graders will continue learning the building blocks of music and working with a mix of melody and rhythm days where we will use the Rhythm Band Curriculum and the Pre-School Prodigies Curriculum to build our musical vocabularies and skills! On our Rhythm Day, we will be taking a game that we've been playing through Pre-School Prodigies and composing our own variation of it. On Melody Day, we'll be expanding our work with the pitches of the major scale and bringing more notes into our chord study. How exciting!! Second Grade is busy adding new recorder karate songs to their repertoire! We've begun working on our new Black Belt song, "The Ode to Joy" and are excited for all of the new musical knowledge it will bring us!! Make sure to ask your child about it when they come home and check out the Recorder Resources tab on their page to help with your at home practice :) Third Graders will be back in action as their class Orffestra, mastering a new song and some special new skills this month!! third Graders are even going a bit further and are working on two different orffestrations that we hope to share with you at future "Wake-Up Amagansett" Performances. We're adding orffestra to go along with "De Colores," a song we're learning in Spanish class with Mrs. Tracy!!! Fourth Graders have begun a special project based on the song, "I Grew Up With" by Soda Speak. The children have been listening to the song and identifying all of the things listen in the song from the early 1980's and 1990's and why the artist might have chosen to include these things in a song about his childhood. For the next phase of the project, each child will brainstorm a list of significant things from their own childhood and create their own, "I Grew Up With" songs based on today's generation!!! | General Music Classes |
