Our Weekly Info: | The Buzzword for last week was RIFF and it meant, "a jazz ostinato; usually provides a background for a solo improvisation." Congratulations to: Paloma (2), Brie (2), Iris (2), Merritt (2), Copeland (2), and Omar (2) for being the first Buzzword players of the year! This week's Buzzword is ARPEGGIO. Do you now what it means?? Can you find out?? Check the Buzzword board each week to find out the new word...grab a card and write the word down. Head home and look up the definition of the word. Bring it back to Mrs. Kamp and receive a prize on Friday :) looking forward to playing this game and watching your musical vocabularies grow every week!!! We began celebrating out very first Composer of the Month, Antonin Dvorak as we listened to his music and learn facts about his life each class. A special Thank You to: Izzy (1), Greta (2) and Paloma (2) for becoming music detectives and briging in some very interesting facts to share about Mr. Dvorak! You can see the facts that they learned about Mr. Dvorak on display outside the music room or on the home page of this website :) Check your child's go home folder for this month's composer fact sheet as well as the directions for how to become a "music detective" and have their work featured on the bulletin board outside the music classroom and on the Music Website! |

In the Performance Music world, this was the first week of Instrumental Lessons for our brand new Fourth Grade Beginning Band Students!! I was sooo excited to see everyone happy and prepared for their first lessons! Fourth Graders may now begin practicing their instruments and are encouraged to fill out and return their practice sheet at their lesson next week. Fifth and Sixth Graders also begin their lessons on Tuesday morning! I can't wait to get our band back up and running!!
Ohh...and for my older students, we've been talking a lot about metronomes and this weekend I found an EXCELLENT metronome resource that everyone can use!!! Did you know that Google has a metronome google app (of course they do...) just type "metronome" into your Google search bar in Google chrome and it will show right up. As soon as I figure out how to attach the app to the website I will let you all know :)
As part of the Instrumental Lessons Program, students have the opportunity to earn "Band Karate" belts by completing playing tests with Mrs. Kamp. I am extremely excited to congratulate Natalie (6) on being the first student EVER to achieve the Level I Brown Belt!! AMAZING Job Natalie! You can learn more about the Band Karate program Here and find testing materials for your child to practice and begin earning their belts. Band Karate Belt testing is offered every day at the beginning of Recess :)
