The Fifth Graders will celebrate their victory in the First Quarter Battle of the Bands Competition with special donut treats and their trophy in their classroom tomorrow, Tuesday, December 4th during lunch time. The students will enjoy this special reward for being the most prepared and well practiced class this quarter. Keep up the great work Fifth Graders (and remember, Fourth or Sixth Grade could steal your trophy next quarter so make sure those instruments, band binders, and practice sheets keep coming in on time each week.)
Our Weekly Info: | The Buzzword for last week was LENTO and it means: "slowly." Thank you to all students who participated! I love seeing you go that extra mile at home to do some research and broaden your musical vocabularies! The Buzzword for this week is SCORE. Do you know what it means?? Can you find out?? I'll give you a hint...Mrs. Kamp is always using these during band, chorus, and often in instrumental lessons...... Remember to pick up a card in the music room so you can get in on the Buzzword game :) It's a new month and, with the change of the calendar, comes a change of composers. This month's "Maestro of the Month" is Ludwig van Beethoven. Beethoven's story of overcoming adversity and incredible odds to continue composing even after he became completely deaf is one of my favorite composer stories. What an inspiration to our students that, if you put your mind to it, you can really do anything you want to do! Check your child's go home folder for this month's composer fact sheet as well as the directions for how to become a "music detective" and have their work featured on the bulletin board outside the music classroom and on the Music Website! |
General and Performance Music:
Students in our Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 are preparing special holiday carols to share with their family and friends later next week. The children will also be traveling around the school and stopping in each classroom to do some holiday caroling next week. We are very excited about both of these opportunities to spread some holiday magic :)
Kindergarten through Sixth Grade continue final push of preparations in General Music and Chorus classes for our big bi-annual winter musical, "The Best Gift EVER!" Students will be coming together wit the whole school during the afternoons this Wednesday and next Thursday to rehearse the entire show from beginning to end. It's soo exciting to watch the children as they see the whole performance coming together! It's even better to see how wonderfully they all support their friends in each of their "star moments" and other special features!
The classes are all putting the finishing touches on their "Star Moment" songs and dances as well as some other special surprises. Third, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth graders have been hard at work memorizing lines, blocking scenes on stage with Mrs. Mitchell and our "Junior Director," Lissie, and learning all sorts of AMAZING choreography for their big numbers.
Most classes will be starting to spend a lot of time on stage learning where to stand and how to use the microphones so that everyone will be able to hear all of their hard work. Students should keep their ears open for announcements about Scenery Workshop in the Art Room during recess. this special team of students in grades 3 - 6 will work with Ms. Paris to create the scenery, props, and even some costumes for our big production!!
The show is shaping up to be a wonderful opening to the Holiday season and we hope you will all be able to join us for some winter magic on THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13th at 6:00 PM.
Important notices about your child's costume were sent home last week. In case you missed them, you can download a copy here:

In the Performance Music world everyone is busy preparing selections to perform at our annual Holiday concert on Thursday, December 20th at 6:00PM! We can't wait to show you how much we've grown as musicians since September!!! All of our instrumental lessons and band classes are doing GREAT!! Students are off to an excellent start remembering their instruments, music and practice sheets and have been earning tons of points for their individual classes in Battle of the Bands. Although Fourth Grade had been in the lead, Fifth Grade managed to sneak in, earn a bunch of extra points at the last minute, and steal this quarter's Battle of the Band's Trophy!! Congratulations to all Fifth Grade students on this special achievement!!!
Remember, the Battle of the Bands game starts over again THIS WEEK, so get those instruments, band binders, and completed practice sheets to school each week and help your class on the journey towards Battle of the Bands Championships! Will Fifth Grade keep the trophy?? Will Fourth Grade or Sixth Grade steal it?? Stay tuned right here to find out!!
Don't forget to stay connected by joining our Music Department Google Calendar and our Remind App reminders for Beginning and Concert Band Students.
Hope to see you all at our upcoming productions as we ring in the season by sharing some musical holiday cheer!
